AB 2513, which mandated warning labels on gas cooking appliances based on questionable health claims, started to gain momentum in the Legislature.

Gas Stove Legislation

Challenge

Refute the unsubstantiated claims, based on incomplete data, regarding health risks associated with gas stoves, which are already subject to stringent safety standards.

Solution

Launch a public affairs campaign to amplify direct advocacy efforts centered around digital and earned media to address multiple key audiences, emphasizing the flaws in the bill and the existing safety standards that already protect consumers.

A political campaign poster featuring Governor Newsom, opposing AB 2513, with text stating that it undermines California's leadership on science-driven decisions. Contains a call to action to veto AB 2513 and the AHAM logo.
A man in a suit and tie speaking at a podium, with overlay text in bold white and red on a dark background that reads "Governor Newsom: California leads with SCIENCE, NOT FEAR," and a red oval button with white text "VETO AB 2513." The logo of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) is visible in the bottom right corner.

Result

By presenting clear, fact-based counterarguments to the misinformation surrounding gas stove emissions, we ultimately prevented passage of AB 2513 through a veto by the governor who referenced our messaging in his letter.
